With over 31,500 students, more than 150 degree programs, four campuses, and a single vision of growing others, Georgia Southern University is a university on the move — one that soars beyond expectations for the students who choose it. The historic brick streets and moss-draped oak trees may make its campuses picturesque, but there's real, roll-up-your-sleeves work happening here. Research solves real problems in real communities. That drive has deep roots. The University's foundation was laid on December 1, 1906, when delegates from Statesboro traveled to the DeSoto Hotel in Savannah and won the bid to create the First District A&M School. Twenty-nine years later, Armstrong Junior College was founded a few blocks away on Bull Street in Savannah, growing into Armstrong State University before consolidating with Georgia Southern in 2018. And in 1973, Emanuel County Junior College opened in Swainsboro, growing over the decades into East Georgia State College before joining Georgia Southern in 2026. Georgia Southern carries that same founding spirit forward today, meeting people where they are and giving them what it takes to go further. 

Georgia Southern is one university, four campuses strong: Statesboro, Armstrong in Savannah, Liberty in Hinesville and East Georgia in Swainsboro. It's the state's largest and most comprehensive center of higher education south of I-20, a public Carnegie R2 research institution with a robust slate of online programs built for students who need flexibility as much as rigor. Georgia Southern's nationally accredited programs are grounded in real-world experience, so graduates are ready to lead from day one.
