Program Description

The nonprofit sector in the United States is huge. It comprises approximately six percent of the U.S. GDP, with nearly one and a half million registered nonprofit organizations that attract one quarter of the adult population as volunteers. (National Council on Nonprofits) As the sector continues to grow, managers with diverse experiences and skill are increasingly in demand. The UGA Institute for Nonprofit Organizations in the School of Social Work offers an online graduate certificate for individuals who seek to enhance their skills and knowledge in nonprofit management and leadership. Completion of the Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership will prepare you to support and influence the direction of an organization that may be engaged in a wide range of fields, such as human services, visual and performing arts, youth sports, environmental conservation, and many other areas with which nonprofit organizations are engaged. The curriculum covers basic theory and management of nonprofit organizations, grant proposal writing, fundraising, program design and evaluation, and managing volunteers. The program is supported by a multidisciplinary faculty of scholars and professionals from the nonprofit sector. The course credits you earn in this certificate program can be counted toward the Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. A separate application to the MA is required.

Admissions Information

Students applying to the Graduate School for non-degree status are not required to take entrance exams or to submit test scores and letters of recommendation. However, applicants to this program are asked to include a letter of recommendation in their application documents for consideration by UGA's School of Social Work.
