Program Description

As Georgia’s flagship educator preparation provider for workforce research and education, this specialist program prepares you to pursue initial teacher preparation or upgrade your existing Georgia certification in career and technical education.

Offered by the Mary Frances Early College of Education, the specialist program prepares you to take on roles within career and technical education that blend research with practice, improving both teaching and learning. Classes are designed in an online format and address the latest skills to: 

  • Manage careers within a global economy
  • Cultivate work ethic and communication skills
  • Develop and extend capacity for innovation 

This specialist program provides an opportunity for you to complete an advanced degree without an extensive dissertation. 

Upon completion, you may be eligible for a certification upgrade in one of the following areas: 

  • Business education
  • Family and consumer science education
  • Healthcare science education
  • Marketing education
  • Technology education
  • Trade and industrial education 

Admissions Information

This degree is designed for candidates who already hold a master’s degree in their respective content field and who are seeking initial certification to teach at the T-6 level once endorsed by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. 

Online Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Education – Workforce Education Application Checklist 

  1. Application – Submit the Graduate School Admissions online.  Application fee: $75 Domestic.
  2. Select Campus - Online 
  3. Select Degree Level – Educational Specialist
  4. Select Intended Program – EDS, Education (College of Education) [EDS_EDUC_ONL]
  5. Select Area of Emphasis – Workforce Education Advanced Preparation or Workforce Education Teacher Preparation
  6. Select Intended Term – Fall, Spring, Summer
  7. Résumé or curriculum vita – Submit online to the Graduate School.
  8. Statement of Purpose – Submit a one-two page statement of purpose online to the Graduate School. The statement of intent should clarify your relevant background, interests, and goals in relation to the program.
  9. Transcripts – Submit unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended as part of the online application. Send official transcripts after you are offered admission.
  10. Letters of Recommendation – Submit three letters of recommendation online to graduate school. Letters should be from individuals who can evaluate your scholarly ability and potential for success in a graduate program
